This project aim is to cancel the interfering noise or corrupted sound in a speech. In Engineering context, noise can be described as some unwanted additions to a signal, these additions can affect outcome of engineering process like getting unstable or different result. In daily life, this noise cancellation can help people to focused more on the desired sound. The solution that had been used to solve this problem is producing an opposing equal wave for the noise sound wave, which will result on cancelling each other. This can be done by using an adaptive filter. Adaptive filter has the freedom to change its parameters according to the input and getting the required characteristics from it. There are many algorithms that can be used in the adaptive filter, each can result on different outputs. In our project we are using the Least Mean Square (LMS) and Recursive Least Square (RLS) algorithms, those had been used for their efficient simple computations. Both algorithms had been built in MATLAB Simulink and getting the desired result from it using mics and speakers. The ANC blocks had successfully removed the noise form the mixed input.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), are commonly known as drones are aircraft that can be guided remotely or fly autonomously. Technological constant improvement enabled drones to revolutionize different industries, with various applications. For instance, with the use of drones, farmers all over the world are consistently pursuing to decrease costs and expand yields, as agricultural workers are able to collect information, automate redundant processes with better efficiency. On the other hand, the cultivation of crops is another area where drones are gaining traction, as it is a process that can be time-consuming, repetitive, and detailed oriented. In addition, drones are utilized in humanitarians and reconnaissance operations, health care traffic surveillance, weather forecasting, companies also benefit from drones in packages delivering. As a result of the rapid development of commercial drones, they can be easily purchased with low-cost options. The availability and easy access of drones pose serious threats and challenges, as helpful and enjoyable drones are for cinematography or for other entertaining objectives, in the wrong hands they are a real threat. Malicious and terrorist groups obtain drones for their vicious and criminal purposes endangering both civilians and military entities. Militant groups and non-state actors use weaponized drones to organize lethal and destructive attacks, by modifying the drones with equipped explosives and navigation systems. Furthermore, malicious actors use drones for surveillance of governmental sensitive facilities and crowded locations, disrupting airports, and assassination attempts. A Counter-drone technology is necessary to secure airspace around critical locations and mitigate the threats caused by unauthorized drones. Counter-Unmanned Aerial Vehicles technologies depend on different employed techniques for the detection and prevention of drones. In this project, we propose a real-time anti-drone technology that is designed to perform the detection and prevention of unauthorized drones. The detection includes three specifications: camera, radar, and acoustic. The camera uses a deep learning algorithm to expose the drone, the radar will detect the presence of the unauthorized drone and its location. Also, the radar system utilizes algorithms to recognize drones from other objects, while the acoustic depends on the identification of the drone by comparing the sound of the detected drone with the data-set of drones sounds using deep learning models. On the other hand, prevention relies on the destruction of the unmanned aerial by employing microwaves. Finally, the main advantage of the proposed technology in this project is that it uses multiple detection approaches that combine different sensors and detection methods, deep learning and image processing techniques, such technology provides security from potential attacks that threatens the national security, and rise concerns all over the globe.

In 2009-2013, U.S. fire departments responded to an estimated average of 14,500 reported structure fires in high-rise buildings per year [8]. Fire also has been a hazard for close buildings like classrooms, offices, filling stations and other corporate sector buildings, and its eruption due to electrical short circuit, gas leakage etc. have resulted in multiple fatalities and loss of expensive/sensitive equipment at times. That is not the only problem, according to NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) in the United states only the annual average number of deaths of career firefighter while on duty was 57 [8]. We will design a self-driven 4-wheel robot that will move autonomously and keep hovering around. The robot has GPS to locate fire if the fire alarm is on. It will go inside any burning and to detect and capture fire images. If fire was detected, the robot will send fire information to concerned authorities with the exact location and some other info. Having also information about the fire before entering the burning building is also essential and will help reducing firefighter death rate. The need for a self-driven autonomous fire sensing robot arouse when we see the incidents spread everywhere, and it takes hours to overcome the panic situation. Self-driven Autonomous Fire Sensing Robot (SAFSER) are the ground vehicles that can detect and alarm the fire situations. The development of fire sensing robots has increased drastically because of the fire incidents and due to the fact that seconds of gap/delay is very costly to the infrastructure and human lives. Therefore, a need arouses for such advancement, rather than depending upon manual precautionary measures where a small staff negligence can lead to a big disaster.

Using telexistence, the human being can feel the presence in the remote site, because he/she is able to look anywhere in the remote site through a stereo camera attached to the robotic arm which provide the user live visual and auditory feedback to the VR headset. Therefore, the robotic arm can act naturally with a remote object. In addition, haptic feedback will enhance presence and feeling the natural communication by carrying objects and handshakes through the force sensitive resistors. Hence, the human being can sense the feedback force touched by the robot fingers tips from a remote distance. By developing this technology, workers and employees will be able to work from a remote site, so that it will help create new job opportunities and solve labor shortage problems. As this technology will contribute to solving the problem of spreading the Corona virus by reducing direct contact between humans. By developing this model, humans will be able to function in a practical, sensory and seamless manner remotely in line with the new era.

As technology advances, the field of robotics has also picked up the pace by introducing advancements in robots that help deal with hazardous incidents and named such robots as “HazBots”. HazBots as of today have the capabilities to co-exist with specialists in the field, as a part of the solution to the many dangerous incidents that occur. There are many applicable uses of HazBots, but most common use is by the defense agencies, to perform bomb disposals, handle radioactive substances, move dangerous chemicals or by health centers to assist healthcare workers in the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. However, as shown in the subsequent sections, high cost and restricted commercial availability makes these robotic solutions inaccessible, leading to professionals in different fields being deprived of a HazBot’s benefits. In order to remove the above-mentioned barrier between the HazBots and professionals, this project is aimed towards executing the idea of designing a cheaper, more accessible and a customizable HazBot that is constructed from off the shelf components. The design comprises of a remotely controlled rover robotic platform having dexterous functionalities and a robotic base of high strength, with a strong robotic arm integrated onto it. A control strategy is designed to control the robotic platform’s movements by supplying remote commands through the remote controller to the programmable PC within the robot. Also, a communicating channel is implemented by integrating an imaging sensor onto the robotic base to facilitate the communication between the user and the environment surrounding the robot. Additionally, the remote controller can also provide remote commands for the arm to move up, down, left, and right to adjust the angle of the imaging sensor for an enhanced view of the surroundings.

Due to the recent COVID-19 virus and its quarantine, most people tend to do most of their day-to-day life activities from home. Studies have shown rapid increase in intensified neck and lower back pains in some people. Poor body posture is a result of lower back pain, long period of sitting, and being inactive. In this project, we aim to address the problem of poor back posture, its significance, consequences, and previously studied solutions. The project proposes an improved design of system that tries to tackle this problem. This project aims to limit and prevent muscle strain, unhealthy spine stress, and back pains resulting from poor posture. The system consists of both hardware and software parts, that help maintain a proper posture to keep the back steady and healthy. It is a smart posture detection device that alarms the person whenever he/she has a poor back posture through vibration as well as through a designed Android mobile application. The hardware design of this device uses a battery for power supply, two sensors (flex sensor and IMU sensor) for sensing and collecting data from the slouching and bending of the back, an Arduino UNO for the processing of data collected, and an Arduino vibration motor for sending vibration signals as feedback to the user. The processed data is then sent to the mobile app via the Bluetooth connection, which gives the user the feedback needed depending on the detected posture. The device also offers the feature of training individuals on using it for a period of time (e.g., all the time and the 14 day-experiment) to automatically improve their back postures as a good habit.

In the modern era, the world is witnessing a magnificent development in the field of architecture and interior design. Due to architectural development, the current measuring tools such as metal tapes and leaser meters became insufficient for assisting both architects and interior designers in taking the measurements for buildings and facilities. Because the accuracy of obtained readings depends on the professionalism of the users and the nature of these tools is unidirectional, the measurement taking process becomes less efficient in terms of time and labor. Since drones have played an essential role in revolutionizing the world of science and automation due to their use in a huge number of daily life applications, an introduction of indoor drones in the field of mapping and architecture is indispensable. Hence, the DroMap project proposes an autonomous indoor drone that can navigate autonomously and create a map of the indoor environment along the way. For the aforementioned purpose, a LiDAR sensor is used to collect data of the indoor place which is sent to a host computer. Afterward, simultaneous localization and mapping algorithm utilizes these data to pave the way for creating a 2-dimensional map. This autonomous indoor mapping drone system is not prone to inefficiency and human errors like in manual mapping and has the potential to take indoor mapping to the next level in the near future.

In this project, we will explore the possibility of making a robotic hand interface that can be controlled remotely by a human operator using specially designed glove. The fingers of the robotic arm are fitted with touch sensors in order to give the ‘feeling’ of the object that it touches based on the hardness of the object as well as some form of movement or vibration in the surface being touched. The same response will be transmitted to the controlling glove, where the fingers will be fitted with actuators to provide the proportional vibrations to the strength of the touch by the robotic arm. It is expected that this simple interface can be used in a number of applications such as enabling technology for remote medical inspections. Since some diseases could be infectious and rapidly spreading as the current situation in the world with the virus COVID-19. This robotic hand can help doctors to diagnose patients and provide the treatment that they need without direct connection. This will ensure the safety of doctors and patients at the same time.

This project aims to provide a safe environment for the hearing-impaired people by creating a full home security system that would alert the hearing-impaired resident and notify an emergency contact about any fire, gas leak, water leak, or invasion of privacy at home. The considered solution is to create a home security system capable of alerting the hearing impaired efficiently. It will be able to detect multiple types of security issues that includes fire by using a heat sensor/smoke detector, a gas leak by using a carbon monoxide sensor, a water leak by using a water sensor, or an unknown home entry by using a motion sensor and a face recognition camera. The motion sensors will be placed on windows and doors and when a motion is detected, the alarming system will be triggered directly to activate a camera that will work on recognizing the face of the person entering. Accordingly, if the person is recognized the alarm will not start, otherwise, the alarm will be triggered. The system will be able to alert the person even if he/she was asleep by placing a strong vibrating device under the pillow to wake the person up when any emergency happens. To do so, our system will utilize a sensor that detects the pressure on the bed to activate the vibrating device causing the person to wake up. The considered system relies on the Raspberry Pi microcontroller which combines all system sensors and generates all the actions needed to help the hearing impaired. Hearing impairment can be generally classified into two types as partially and completely deaf. To alert the partially deaf category, when any of the sensors is activated, a loud alarming noise will be generated and therefore the hard of hearing could hear it as well as the neighbors (if any) that might help. On the other hand, for completely deaf, multiple colored lights will periodically flicker, and each color will represent a different type of problem. The lights colors will be red for fire, blue for a water leak, green for a gas leak, and white for an unknown entry. Additionally, an SMS alert will be sent to the homeowner and an emergency service.

COVID-19 is an infectious disease that is introduced by a new coronavirus. The COVID-19 virus symptoms can include coughing, fatigue, fever for those with mild cases. For more severe cases, it can lead to shortness of breath, chest pain, and eventually death. Due to its infectious nature, people started taking health precautions that were advised by the World Health Organization such as social distancing, washing hands, and sanitizing surfaces. Due to this pandemic, the aim of this project is to automate mundane tasks with the help of a service robot to reduce physical contact as well as reduce the workload on healthcare workers. Tasks such as delivering food, medication, water, and other necessities to patients with infectious diseases. In addition, this project will specifically reduce physical contact between patients and the attending nurse. A service robot is a robot that is built to perform a repetitive or dangerous task in order to assist humans. A service robot executes repetitive tasks more efficiently compared to a person who is prone to lose focus and make mistakes during work hours. The service robot will perform tasks that are requested by the patients and accepted by the nurse through the mobile application. The application will show both the nurse and the patients the position of the robot and the task it is performing. In the prototype, a miniature robot car has been implemented to receive a path from the server upon a request using a mobile app. On top of that, the prototype includes a functional mobile application, a RESTful API, a no-SQL database and a python microservice that is responsible for path planning.

Jabir reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Every disease has a cure. If a cure is applied to the disease, it is relieved by the permission of Allah Almighty.”[1]. As medicine advances more cures for deadly diseases are found. However, there is one important aspect that is not primarily addressed, which is drug adherence. Enhancing drug adherence is a must to avoid medical complications. The aim of this project is to create a system which will help patients who take medications regularly to improve their drug adherence. This device can be used by users to help them organize their medications and help improve their drug adherence. It can also be used by hospitals or caretakers to ease the process of dispensing medication and keeping up with their medication schedule. The device will classify the pills fed to it using the latest AI approaches. The device stores pills inside cups that are designed and tailored to accommodate a specific number of pills based on the market need and demand. The proposed solution uses a cloud as a mean of communication between the device and the mobile application. The mobile application provides the user with the ability to register, set-up user level, and set drugs schedule. The hierarchy of users is used to assign proper permissions. Notifications are sent to appropriate users on scheduled medication time, and on low pill supply. Moreover, the dispenser can dispense a specific number of pills using its unique dispensing mechanism.

Ionizing radiation has many applications in the medical field; it is included in nuclear medicine, diagnostic radiology and radiotherapy. However, the uncontrolled exposure to this radiation could eventually lead to multiple health problems which could be dangerous and critical. Monitoring the radiation exposure is so important for the health safety of medical staff. Such radiation exposure is measured using a dosimeter. A dosimeter is an instrument that is used to measure the ionizing radiation dose absorbed by the human body. The most commonly used dosimeter in Qatar’s local hospitals is the TLD passive dosimeter. This type accumulates the received dose over a prescribed period of time and provides the reading at the end of the specified period. This delay is considered as a poor performance in terms of time, which reduces the efficiency of the instrument. Our alternative proposed solution is a smart electronic dosimeter that provides a real-time assessment of the dose exposure. It will be built using a locally fabricated x-ray detector with more efficient characteristics. To increase the usability of the dosimeter, we need to make the instrument to be light in weight, small in size and has a low cost. Moreover, the instrument will be interfaced with a mobile application to provide a friendly user interface.

Fire is a great threat to properties and buildings it causes thousands of deaths as it brings huge losses, massive damage to contents, and considerable impacts onto the environment. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), fire causes 180,000 deaths per year and 95% of fatal fire-related burns occur in low- and middle-income countries. After a fire occurs, authorities come together to address fire safety, but what if the fire was tragic and it was too late to respond and react? What if there was a way for authorities to work together before a fire breaks out and spreads, to help save properties and lives before they are lost? The purpose of this project in particular, is to build a smart, secure, and complete wireless fire alarm system that provides easy use and maintenance. Taking the laws and restrictions of the Qatari government into consideration, fire alarms are directly connected with the concerned authorities to provide early extinguishing of fires. The system consists of different sensors such as tempreture and humidity sensors that respond to the temperature rise associated with a fire and humidity detectors that respond to the humidity generated due to fire , proximity sensor that count any body movements to report human existence in the place of fire , carbon monoxide sensor that detects the presence of thecarbon monoxide(CO) gas to preventcarbon monoxidepoisoning. Fire detectors are designed to respond at an early stage to one of the four major characteristics of combustion, tempreture , humidity , and carbon monoxide. The CO detectors distinguish between a false alarm and an actual fire from the presence of Carbon Monoxide gas. Using a mobile application, a machine learning algorithm will be developed to analyze the data coming from all these sensors to provide accurate notification in case of fire, and indicates if there is human existence in incident location, Reducing the frequency of miscalculations also means improving the safety of the lives and properties of the consumer.

Governments around the world have imposed social distancing measures to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Businesses and organizations such as supermarkets, schools, banks, and hospitals must monitor and control the number of occupants present at their campus/building and distribution density. They also need to control people's traffic (in and outflow) at the building entrances. It is mostly done manually by a security guard by counting people entering and leaving the building. This project aims to design and build an automated occupancy monitoring system for a cost-effective way to enforce social distancing and occupancy policies. The system's key features include providing real-time people count and distribution at a particular location, visualize real-time occupancy in a campus map and an indoor map. Also, offer occupancy statistics per hour of the day and day of the week so that visitors can plan their visit ahead of time and select a suitable and less crowded time to visit. This application will be beneficial to monitor real-time occupancy of buildings/areas during the COVID-19 pandemic. It can be extended for crowd management during the upcoming FIFA 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Due to technological advancements, social media has unfortunately become one of the platforms where the weak (daeef) and falsified (mawdu), and other rejected types of hadith are shared and widely spread. Most people, especially social media users, do not verify the authenticity of the hadiths, but rather share them right away. We, therefore, aim in this project to develop an auto-reply system which helps notify users on Twitter (in real time) when they post a tweet that contains one of the rejected types of hadith by mentioning that this type of hadith is rejected and it should not be shared. We also aim in this project to correct the posted hadiths that are written incorrectly (e.g., including spelling mistakes or changed/missing words, etc.). In addition to that, we are going to build a simple web interface and we will provide developers and programmers with a REST API. Building this system is, hence, extremely important, especially that the hadiths represent the sayings and actions of the Prophet PBUH (peace be upon him). The auto-reply system will therefore help stop the spread of rejected hadiths and hopefully raise awareness amongst people.

Recently the use of augmented reality (AR) technology has become more widespread. However, mostly the use of this technology is oriented toward gaming. Thus, we intend to involve this technology in the educational environments to prepare the current generation for the technology future and enhance their learning performance. This project aims to build an augmented reality application for students in the primary school stage. This project will cover the subjects of science course where the contents will illustrate and displayed in 2D, 3D, videos, and texts, to help students to increase their interest in learning science subjects with more fun and better understanding and improve their imagination skills and self-study. Also, this project will facilitate the parents and educators to follow their student’s performance. Moreover, the gamification concept will be applied to encourage students to self-study and more practice. The previous results from similar research and studies that experimented with the implementation of the augmented reality technology in different educational environments proved that this technology could enhance students’ understanding and comprehension of the concepts and affect their attitudes toward their courses positively. This could be achieved by making the concepts visualized and entertained.

Throughout the centuries, the world has faced many pandemics and epidemics which took the lives of hundreds of thousands of people. One of the deadliest among them, the Black Plague, wiped out nearly 1/3rd of the world population in the mid-14th century. Upon outbreak of such infectious diseases, it spreads like wildfire to all its surrounding areas, and a major cause behind it is not being able to trace the source as well as who came in contact with the source. This is where contact tracing comes into play. Modern technologies have enabled contact tracing to be more advanced, precise, and accurate in recording and informing whom an individual has come in to contact with in case of an outbreak of any infectious disease; the application of which can be seen nowadays with the outbreak of Covid-19. Governments and healthcare organizations have come up with many solutions for contact tracing in order to fight the recent pandemic of Covid-19; however, most of those solutions do not take user privacy into consideration. This project aims to develop an appropriate solution to preserve the user’s privacy while tracing any sign of contact with users infected with covid-19 or any other infectious disease. This would help to minimize further chances of infections and also ensure that users feel safer while using the system. The proposal uses Bluetooth and GPS location while also applying cryptographic techniques to Bluetooth and GPS data to enhance the privacy of the system and make exchange of data safe.

Medicine dispensers help patients properly store their medications and keep track of their intake, however, it is still possible for some patients to forget their schedule and to be unable to take the medicine without direct help. This may pose the patients to the danger of over or underdosing. To overcome this problem, this project proposes to provide a smart medicine dispenser that can be used by patients and caregivers and can be remotely operated. Caregivers will help their patients to keep track of the pill intake schedule as well as communicate and directly help them through assistive and augmented reality technology. This will allow caregivers of multiple individuals to effectively connect and provide physical help remotely. It will also help the users in pre-dividing the medicine and have it dispensed with the smallest amount of physical effort required from the patient, which would highly benefit the elders, and patients with nerve and muscle disorders and diseases. This report provides motivational and background information including a review of existing designs of medical dispensers. The report also provides an initial design and plan to develop the proposed system.

Early detection is crucial to treat and potentially cure any disease. Diabetes is a common disease in which early detection is necessary for effective management of the disease. Diabetes is a worldwide health issue that to progress in the methods of treatment, one must start with the diagnosis process. As reported by the World Health Organization (WHO), the number of people with diabetes rose from 108 million in 1980 to 422 million in 2014, and there was a 5% increase in premature mortality caused by diabetes between 2000 and 2016. 34.2 million Americans (10.5% of the American population) had diabetes in 2018. 7.3 million of those Americans with diabetes were undiagnosed, proving the need for improvement in the detection process. In this project, we will design and implement a device that can detect diabetic retinopathy with the aid of image processing and artificial intelligence (AI). The device is responsible for taking the image of the patient’s retina and inspecting for any signs of disease and or suspicion (such as bleeding or indistinguishable marks) and classifying what any findings could potentially mean in terms of the patient’s health.

Qatar has become one of the most tourist destinations in the world, which is going on developing more by time will raise the need for tourist facilities places with different fields not only for tourists but also for citizens. Many citizens complaining about the limited entertainment space around Qatar and others find that the only recreational opportunity is to travel. However, there are many entertainment places in Qatar that meet the different need of the people with their different cultures and interests. The problem is that these events might be hidden in a narrow frame of social media account which may not reach the huge percentage of people around Qatar. Another reason behind that is the ignorance of the unknown entertainment places around Qatar or the highlighting events that are not suitable for the Qatari and the Arab community. The known methodology for advertising these events is that each organization advertise for itself about their events and you can reach these advertisements only by adding their social media account. Thus, everyone should collect a collection of organizations’ accounts in each social media application or website to search for the event that might appeal for their needs. Moreover, in Qatar there are many applications on different events. however, it’s doubtful that Qatari or even any Arab user will like these events. This project aims to design an events application hoping to solve this issue by adding more speed and flexibility to the process. The objectives of our study are to ease the search of events, organizations and events location with all detailed information that answers the user queries. This application will highlight all the events in Qatar classifying them into organized categories for the user. Moreover, for the event organizer there will be the property of adding his event with all detailed information and locating it in the map in an easiest user reach. This events application acts as a direct connection between the user and the event organizer to smooth the communication between these two entities. Our application offers solutions to the current processes as many functionalities were added and some modifications were made to it to be held in addition to short fallen easy-to-reach way. The application prototype will consist of positive aspects that the user needs in addition of shortfalls of the related works. This will enable the user to reach his desire and find his favorite event easily.

In Qatar, car accidents amount to 8% of deaths and economic losses amounting to 2.7% of Qatar's Gross Domestic Product. A possible solution to this problem is to reduce the number of traffic accidents by pre-emptively detecting aggressive driving behavior. This project attempts to solve this from a commercial perspective by implementing a fleet management system that tracks drivers' behavior and detects dangerous driving patterns or events by using a collection of sensors, a connection to the car's computer (through OBD-II interface) as well as the camera feed by utilizing different computer vision techniques. This project incorporates computer vision techniques to provide contextual information to supplement sensory and telemetric data to improve detection of dangerous driving events. The system then saves footage of those events to a cloud-based system. It provides fleet managers with all the gathered information. This information includes both recorded video footage of detected dangerous events and live-tracking info. The system will allow fleet managers to intervene when drivers drive dangerously or place financial incentives for those drivers to drive more safely.

Health monitoring sensors are widely used nowadays, and it is growing rapidly due to the need of the health monitoring system that can be used anywhere and to be as a first alarm for any emergency. This project introduces a IoT multisensory wearable belt for monitoring heart rate in bpm, fluids level on the lungs, record the sound of the lungs, and oxygen level on the blood, using four main sensors, which are heart rate sensor placed on the left chest part, pulse oximeter sensor also will be placed on the chest of the user but more closely to the bottom center, and an ultrasonic sound sensor also placed more to the right center of the chest of the user, and stethoscope to record the lungs sound. In addition, by using a microcontroller and a microprocessor which will collect the data from different sensors, and it will analyze data to generate graphs, and recommendations based on the numbers and using machine learning to decide the patient current status, it will be sent to the mobile application using Wi-Fi to predict any expected heart failure before it happens. Moreover, in this project, we will illustrate the whole model from design and overview of the hardware and software to testing and implementation, also we will illustrate the model of smoker and non-smoker to simulate the feasibility of the heart failure prediction, due to the lack of datasets. In addition, we will illustrate every step of the project and the reflection of the students regarding their experience working on this project.
