Towards the end of the Spring semester, CS students who have completed at least 60 credit hours (CH) and have a minimum GPA of 2.5 will be invited to apply for the Data Science Concentration. Selection will be competitive, with priority given to students with a higher GPA.
The primary distinction between the CS Major and the CS Major with a Data Science Concentration is the completion of 12 CH of Data Science Concentration requirements in place of the 12 CH of CS major electives. In addition, students are required to complete CMPS 399 Practical Training during the summer of their third year. Furthermore, the Senior Project must be Data Science–related or include Data Science–focused deliverables.
The 12 credit hours Data Science requirements consist of:
Four required courses (9 CH):
And one elective (3 CH) from these courses:
| Year | Fall | Spring | Summer |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 | CMPS 360 Data Science Fundamentals | CMAI 361 Deep Learning | CMPS 399 Practical Training |
| 4 | CMAI 430 Big Data Analytics | Data Science Concentration Elective |
